End of the Wedding Gown Chronicles

Sunday, October 14th, 2007

Well everyone the wedding was last night. So, the chronicles are finished. The dress was beautiful and the bride radiant. We only had one mishap with the dress, but I was there to lend and speedy hand. The bride tugged on her dress a little too hard while taking photos before the wedding and tore a small rip in the mesh overlay. Fortunately, it was on a seam, so I just whip-stitched it back into place and everything went off without a hitch. Everyone loved her dress and I was there to lend extra moral support to the bride. Go the the Chronicles posting to to see a picture of the beautiful bride, additional pictures of the dress and description of all involved.

Thank you for following this story.

Remember, life is a journey. Take it one step at a time.

I am diligently working away on the dress as featured in the Chronicles. There is still much work to be done and the wedding is fast approaching. I decided to take a break and write this little tidbit. I have some last minute changes and I am really under the gun. However, unfortunately, there is only so much I can do at a time, especially when my fingers start to hurt. For time purposes, I decided to glue some of the lace motifs into place. Not my preferred method, but it works pretty good. I’ve still chosen to hand sew all of the scallops in place though, as they need a little more shaping and and a I want the drape to stay the same. Plus, the mesh is so fragile, I don’t wont to weight it down. MOB asked for more lace in the back, so I’m obliging. I just finished hand-picking the zipper and I still need to tack down the lace edges, make a change to the hem line and figure a way to bustle it around all of the additional lace I just put on. Anyway, here is a quick snap shot of the dress, I will have a better picture online very shortly. The dress is coming along beautifully and is is looking outright gorgeous! And if you think the front looks good, wait until you see the back!

Back to Work

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007

Well, I found this lurking in my Drafts folder. I forgot to publish it. Silly me. I have been extremely busy and haven’t had time to write anything. Everyone keeps asking when will I update. Within the next couple of weeks I’ll be back to normal. The wedding will be done and I’ll be ready to focus on other things. I’m still recovering from my accident, so I lost some work time and trying to get the kids school year started just took everything right out of me. In the meantime, enjoy this post that never got published. I’ll have to tell you about my accident later.

Well, it’s back to work now. With being on vacation and being ill, I haven’t had a lot of time to write.

First vacation. My family and I had a wonderful time this year at Pine Cove. This was our second year going there and what a treat. Usually when we would go on vacation I would always come back more tired than when we left. Even though on vacation, I still had to entertain and take care of my kids, but do it in a strange place. lol. However, at Pine Cove they take care of all of that for you. The camp counselors there are so wonderful. They take the kids off to day camps and on adventures parents have time to rejuvenate. They take care of the little ones too. Plus they take care of breakfast, lunch and dinner and do not allow you to get up to do anything. There’s even two nights a week where it’s parents only. Now that’s a vacation! We just loved Pine Cove and the kids had so much fun. I’ll post some pictures soon of our time there.

Next, the dress. The gown has entered into another stage, but I’ve chosen not to post the picture. It is so close the final dress, that I don’t want to spoil the outcome. The bride came out and tried it on with the lower lace pinned in place. Even filled with pins the gown looks exquisite. She brought her mom, grandma and future mother-in-law with her. It was quite a scene as each of the ladies admired the dress and the tears started to flow, reminding me of why I love to do this. The wedding is in October, so the dress will be finished soon (relatively speaking), so you readers won;t have to wait too much longer to see the final dress. I have to make a few minor alterations to body of the dress then the work of putting the lace on will begin. I’ve chosen to remove all of the netting from the lace in order to place it directly on the sheer overlay between the bands. It is a lot of work but will give the dress such dimension that it will be totally unbelievable.

I’m off to take care of the kids now. I’ll write more later.

Something to think about: How can you be salt and light if you’re not too salty, nor very bright?

Feeling like a deadbeat

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007

Okay, it’s time to get on my soap box now. I recently had to go to the hospital after having an accident and tearing open one of my toes. To make a long story short, my toe had to be cleaned up and stitched for proper healing. I also had to get and tetanus shot and be put on antibiotics for a week. Seemingly simple. Of course I had insurance that was supposed to cover everything—NOT. I received a billed from the hospital that had an itemized statement on it. That little bitty trip cost almost $900. Yikes! I am thinking, “Well, at least I have insurance to pay for it.”

So, two days ago, I received in the mail a “letter” with an amount due on it from a “service” that says that Physician Emergency Care (yes, I’m naming names because this is outrageous) has requested that the “service” handle their billing. It’s one of those black and white letters with the portion at the bottom to return below with your payment. It additionally says “we received payment on your account, but it did not clear your balance.” And ending with the standard “any information we obtain will be used for the purpose of collecting this debt.”

Collecting a debt?! My goodness, I have insurance, majority of it was paid. This is the first notice that I have received regarding any amount due. Then, to top it all off, I get a phone call today from the “service” trying to collect. I haven’t even had a chance to contact the insurance company or put a check in the mail. This whole thing makes me feel about two inches tall. I’m willing to pay my share, if it’s actually that. Although, my insurance is supposed to cover 100%. Not to mention there was still plenty of money in the medical spending account. I’m sure someone has messed things up somewhere, but who gets to pay for it, I do.

You know they treat you like you’re a deadbeat and like they really need that much money for what they do (but that’s another box for later). I can’t believe they would give you just a couple of days notice then “turn you in for collections.” That’s insane!

We average citizens get stuck between the hospitals and the doctors and the insurance companies. No wonder there are so many sick people in America, they can’t afford healthcare. I’m just glad my toe didn’t totally fall off. I’d hate to think what I’d be up against then.

Dog Training

Saturday, June 16th, 2007

Well, we have a four month old puppy. Meet Mozart my black pug. I just love pugs. He is such a cutie. Isn’t he? My previous pug died last summer and it took a while before I was ready to get another. I instantly fell in love with this little fellow. However, housetraining him has been quite the challenge. I have been searching for a crate that he likes in order to properly crate train him, but have had many issues with him. I thought dogs generally don’t eliminate where they eat or sleep. Wrong! Someone gave me a crate when we got Mozart and I thought “great.” Well, I could never get him on a schedule becuase he would use the bathroom on one side then go sleep on the other. lol. It was too big. I never knew when he needed to go out and was able to establish that when I let you out, you go outside. So I bought him a smaller crate. Then he would use it an stand there and whine because he didn’t want to be in there with the “mess.” After weeks of frustration, my dog trainer gave me a new tactic to try. So far it’s proceeding, but I haven’t been able to get him to go outside consistently. On the upside, he is pretty much paper trained. I may just end up training him for paper all the time since that seems to be what he does best.

My New Blog

Thursday, June 7th, 2007

Hello all,

Welcome to my new blog. I had one on blogspot, but never really did anything with it. So when my hosting company started offering free blog software on the host servers, I figured why not. Everyone else has one.

I am a homeschooling work at home mom and there is always something going on at my house. I can’t guarantee that it will all be interesting, but when you have three kids, homeschool, and run a business, it’s never dull!

Check back often to see what’s going on.
